Loren on C5 row: I’ll vote according to my conscience

WITH THE SENATE POISED TO MEET IN PLENARY THIS COMING WEEK TO DISCUSS THE REPORT OF THE C5 ROAD EXTENSION CONTROVERSY, SEN. LOREN LEGARDA SAID TODAY THAT SHE WOULD “VOTE ACCORDING TO MY CONSCIENCE” IF THE SENATORS PRESENT WOULD PUT THE ISSUE TO A VOTE.

In a clear indication that she would stand by her running mate, Nacionalista Party standard bearer, Sen. Manny Villar, Loren said: “I am prepared to vote according to my conscience, according to the evidence presented, according to what I think is right. The others should not use the party stand to judge other people.”

Loren said that there should be a closure to the C5 controversy and senators should make their stand very clear. “We should be fair to Sen. Villar. I cannot speak for him on this issue or what he wants to do. In December, he already spoke on the Senate floor on the C5 issue and he does not want to go around explaining his side on the same issue over and over again. But I fear that his political rivals will try to raise the issue again and again,” she said.

Loren said Villar has helped many people and the electorate should consider his experience in the private sector and in public office rather than what his detractors are saying. “He does not want to quarrel with other people and I share that thinking. I want to wage a positive campaign. Our focus today should not only be the campaign but rendering service to our people,” she said.

Loren said the Senate priority should be the passage of pending important bills, especially since there are only several days left in the current session.

Loren also warned against a possible failure of elections if the Comelec is unable to get its act together in the preparation for the May political exercise.

“The Comelec should make it very clear whether they are really prepared for full automation, or only partial automation. Because if we revert to manual voting, we have to prepare our watchers at the precinct level. I was one of those who felt cheated in 2004 and I am really concerned that the same thing could happen in May,” Loren said.

“We should give the Comelec a deadline, and the deadline is now.

It should be now, it’s already running late,” Loren added.

As to the proposal to hold early elections in certain areas, Loren said that this would all depend on the capability of the poll body to explain the mechanics of poll automation to the electorate. “Are the people prepared? Are the machines ready? Have they taught the people how to operate the machines? Before we can have early voting, these questions must be answered, Loren said.

  3. Yes, don't judge people, but base your decisions on written facts and evidences and not by mere politics and personal reasons. Kumbaga walang personalan diba?

  5. The senate is like a circus, with dancing elephants and howling tigers. It really brings shame to our country. I know Filipinos will be smarter in voting for their candidates this coming elections. That is, if the COMELEC will give us an honest one..

  6. I think comelec is not yet ready for the e-lection kc yung mga mchines nga nila dry run tests pa lng pumapalya na to think that cguro mga 10 ballots pa lng ung pin procees nun wat more sa actual election day na eh milyon milyon na ang boboto and practically speaking mas magiging ok pa din cguro ang manual election at dapat ung mgammchines na yun i try nila 10 yrs before the election to make assure it's capcity and realibility

  7. in my point of view is that be good to yourself and so that you can act according to what is right. And i can see and observe that from senator loren legarda she has the the good ways what is to be a politician, and regarding his running mate sen. manny villar all i can say is that they are the best partner in politics, hes a good and respectfull also and a good leader. The issue is just a part of thier life being a politician. And we should bear into our mind that the best candidate will win and were hoping that the two of them will win this coming election.

  12. It wud be much better kung yung poll automation if sa mga brangay elections muna xa gagamitn at least small population lng ung nid i process nung machine so that makita tlga ng comelec kung pwede na ung isabak sa national elections

  13. Hindi pa ready ang comelec for this upcoming elections kc yung mga mkina nila puro palpak at ang dami pang mga possible troubles na pwedeng pwede ma encounter ng mga machines sa actual elections

  14. now is the right time for the comelec officials and staffs to inform and educate the people of the philippines on how to use the electronic machines, para nmn hindi mgmukhang tnga mga tao kung pano gagamitin yun sa election

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  16. Go for it Sen. Loren always stand up for what is right

  18. Worst Politician

We were in SM Cebu last week and chance upon Ms Loren Legarda. The reason why I won’t vote for her is best described on the dialogue she and my friend had:

(my friend approached her and asked for a picture taken together)
    Loren Legarda: Are you Cebuano?
Josh: No, I stay in Bacolod.
    Loren Legarda: Are you Filipino?
    Josh: No, I’m American.
Loren: (eyebrows up) So you can’t vote!?

Ms Loren, I can vote and it won’t get wasted to bitches like you. She painted a perfect picture of her to my friend and I will make sure that people (Filipino or not) will know that she is your classic Filipino TraPo.
